Association of Community Mental Health Centers of Kansas & Community Care Network of Kansas
The Kansas team worked toward aligning policy, payment, and practice with the integrated model of care through two evidence-based models of care. AMCHK and the CMHCs focused on the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model, while Community Care and FQHCs focused on integrating behavioral health services within primary care. While the project considered policy, payment, and practices that support each model separately, it also sought out opportunities to create synergy and collaboration, with the ultimate goal of creating a unified, integrated behavioral health and primary care system in Kansas. In addition, the project team included representatives from the public health system to apply population health data and strategies to address health and racial equity.
Successes:
- Implemented a CCBHC model in the state’s community mental health system.
- Advocated for an expedited licensing process for staff employed at CMHCs, CCBHCS, FQHCs, and other mental health facilities
